Recently I tutored a deaf girl from bottom of the class in year 8, not being able to add, multiply or understand fractions to be top of the class 18 months later. This was at one of the most popular public schools.
One of my students had failed to get entry into medicine and was repeating by himself. With my help he succeeded in gaining entry to medicine at Adelaide University by getting extraordinary results in SACE.
I enjoy recalling the successes I have helped others achieve in their lives.
My doctoral thesis was 640 pages long, consisting of my own original mathematical creations. This shows a greater understanding of mathematics than most other teachers and tutors.
I won a scholarship to study at The University of Adelaide and won a scholarship to study for a doctorate, I have worked as a mathematician. My success is achieved through my student's success!
Experience More than 400 students tutored one-to-one. Experienced teacher at schools, both public and private, taught at 2 universities as alecturer/tutor, and taught teachers how to teach mathematics at a teachers’college. More than 14,000students taught at school, college, university or teachers’ college. My youngest client was 2 1/2 years old.
Tutoring
I adapt to each student's needs, help fill in the gaps in knowledge, and provide explanations for things that are usually taught without them.
I go at the speed and level of my students.
I explain not only the mathematics, but also teach the learning paradigm for the subject and training techniques for tests and exams.
I find out how each student learns best and help them to achieve the highest levels possible for them. Sometimesthe goal has been to get into medicine, law, business school, and others justto pass so as to get into an Arts School. Whatever theneed, I have helped them succeed.
My level of excellence in mathematical ability is only surpassed by my ability to explain concepts, techniques and ideas to my students. I help them at their level, andalso show them how to think about the maths in a way that simplifies learningand doing maths.
I lectured and tutored in computer and information science for 10 years at UniSA, and also ran my own software development business for 12 years with upto 7 full-time staff. I know a lot about software development, and can impart my knowledge to others.
I am qualified to teach AUSLAN.
One of my specialties is as an Educational Psychologist. I have many techniques available to me to help students learn and achieve.
It is important for me to first understand each student as an individual andbuild on what they have. Everything I do is geared to the individual's needs,current knowledge and ability, and past gaps in knowledge.
I have tried teaching pairs or groups of students, but have never achieved the same great outcomes as when tutoring one-to-one, so I now only teach one student at a time, even though I would receive more money for groups.
I take on only up to 3 students on a regular basis.
Hours of Operation Includes Day and Evening, Weekday and Weekend.
Sessions Lessons are usually of the form of the student asking questions about things they don't understand and I answer - and then drill and do variations - and often i provide reasons, explanations, diagrams and discussions.
Mathematics is a live language, and I engage students in talking through solutions and talking about the mathematics. |
