The first step towards becoming a Field, Boundary or Goal Umpire is to attend a FREE Basic Umpiring Course.

Conducted by the SANFL Umpiring Department, the Basic Umpiring Course is a 90 minute training program designed to teach the fundamental skills of becoming an umpire, and is an introduction to the umpiring development pathway.

It is designed to be used by all entry-level umpires, irrespective of age*, gender or background in the game.

*  SANFL Juniors Umpires must be aged 14 as at 1st April 2023 (No exception)

The 90 minute course will cover topics such as:

Umpiring Pathways
How much will I get paid?
Umpire Roles
Decision Making
Communication
Positioning
Signals
