      双胞胎兄弟澳洲追寻功夫梦
CHINESE TWINS FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS TO ADELAIDE KUNG FU SCHOOL
Kung fu twins Wei Xu and Ming Xu, 21, share the same goal but have taken an unusual road to achieve it.
Natives of Dalian city in Liaoning Province, Northern China, Wei (known as Titan) and Ming (Dragon) have been avid martial artists since taking up Bei Dou Quan (or Northern Fist) kung fu at the age of six.
Three years ago, their dream to open their own martial arts school led them to Australia and to the International Wing Chun Academy in Adelaide.
The Academy, established by world renowned Grandmaster Jim Fung in Gouger Street in 1973, teaches Wing Chun Kung Fu, a southern Chinese style made famous by movie star Bruce Lee.
Lee’s master was Grandmaster Yip Man who is credited with having rescued Wing Chun from being wiped out in the Chinese Cultural Revolution by migrating to Hong Kong in 1948 and introducing the style to the general public.
One of Yip Man’s most senior students was Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin and Grandmaster Fung was his top student. With the support and advice of his master, Grandmaster Fung spent decades developing his own unique training programme in Wing Chun, which is what drew Titan and Dragon to his school.
Says Titan:  “When we were kids, we dreamed of being heroes like in the movies. Our mother encouraged us to take up martial arts to give us the power to protect ourselves and others and understand the world better.
“The Northern Fist style is strong and training is hard and very traditional. However, in China many martial arts schools do not really have complete training systems. We heard about Grandmaster Fung’s school on the internet and its fulltime course for overseas students and decided this was perfect for learning a training system to set up our own martial arts school.”
Titan and Dragon have learned quickly since joining the Academy and are now grade three trainee instructors. Their enthusiasm for training is infectious and can been seen during their regular public appearances in Adelaide as part of the Academy’s demonstration team.
The brothers will perform at the Academy’s annual Open Day celebrations at its newly renovated training premises at 253 Gouger Street, Adelaide, on Saturday, September 18. The day’s festivities commence at 10.30am and again at 1:00pm with dynamic demonstrations titled ‘A Student’s Journey through Wing Chun’. There will also be hands-on workshops for students and the general public with the Academy’s Chief Instructors, who have more than 30 years experience in the art. Entry to the open day is free.
For further information, contact Senior Instructor Seth Piszczuk on 08 8231 9600 or view the Academy’s website on www.wingchun.com.au
